AmpKit - guitar amp & effects App Reviews

very impressed

i did the research after looking for some software to facilitate learning some new material. the price and features of ampkit seemed to fit the bill. i wanted something that would run well on my macbook pro with other ios devices as options. i downloaded the software and ordered an ampkit hd link. without reading the instructions i plugged everything up and within 30 seconds had it all up and running.

Great tones, 50 bones.

Real happy with it. The best bit is just plugging in and cranking it to 11 on some monitors or a good stereo. I think Agile did a killer job on the interface too. Its simple, yet powerful. Theres not 900 menus to go through to dial in a mean tone. The fact that its accessible to the VoiceOver screen reader on Mac and iOS is just another bonus. Play bass or guitar? Buy it!

Very Average

This program is decent but not really any better than the various amps/effects that come with Garage Band. It is certainly not worth fifty bucks!

10 stara!!!

This is the best amp simulation app ever!!! Do yourself a huge favor and buy this app, I would’ve paid double for it. The iOS app is just as good too… I use this more than my real amp rig...

Great but buggy

So far Im relatively happy with this application. The sound I get out of this is much more natural than garageband. The effects, amps, and cabs are all wonderful and theres a lot to customize. The problems I have are with inconsistancy and a few bugs. Sometimes Ill open a saved amp setup and it will sound completely different than it did before. There will be huge ammounts of feedback and buzzing, but when I restart the program it goes back to normal. Sometimes my headphones wig out and get choppy and I have to turn my guitar off and back on to get the sound normal again. The Recording function is bare bones. This is not necissarily bad, but I feel more could have been done. You can view and scroll through the wavelength of recordings, but there is no indication that it is playing other than the sound is playing. The scrubber should move along the wavelength as it plays, and at least give me the option to trim my recordings in some way. But of all these little problems, the biggest is when deleting a previous recording (and if youre anything like me there will be many many recordings to delete). The quick keys do not work. Command + Delete does not work. And When deleting tracks you can only delete them one at a time. Right clicking them one by one to delete them is a slow and tedious process. And sometimes when deleting recordings the whole program will lock up and all your recordings will disappear and become unplayable until you restart the program. Most of the problems here are simple bugs that can get very annoying. Please fix these because the core program is beautiful and rich. When it works properly this is the best guitar software Ive used to date bar none.

Wow. The sound quality rocks.

Seriously, I’ve used several guitar recording apps, and this has the best sound that I’ve heard. I’m very impressed. I just plug my guitar straight into my laptop with a basic adapter, and the quality is still amazing. The recording is a little basic—I do wish it had the ability to layer tracks (even if you could only record one track at a time)—but it gets the job done, especially for the price of the app. Also, the number of amps/cabs/pedals is just astounding. Honestly, for the price of one guitar pedal, you can get all of this? The setlists are a great feature as well. I love how everything is organized and customizable. It works just like I want it to, no surprises. If you’re a guitarist, just get this app; well worth it.

Excellent!

Ive used the AmpKit app on iOS for more than a year so I hesitated about buying it again for my Mac, but Im glad I did. It looks great, sounds awesome and the MIDI interface with my GIO is simple and easy to setup, finally unleashing the full potential of that device. Really nice job guys!

Fantastic!

This software is amazing! I’d been looking for a program that I could play guitar through for jamming and recording and AmpKit is definitely the winner! The sound quality is amazing and it’s very easy to use. I am 110% satisfied! I play a variety of music including blues, rock, and metal. AmpKit is versatile enough to accomadate each of my playing styles and sounds nearly as good as the real equipment. I play several different guitars and I hook up to my Mac through a RockSmith cord. Also, I don’t get any muffled or distorted sound when playing metal with string gauges of .052-.012. I highly recommend AmpKit to any musician. You can create a plethora of sounds and styles with AmpKit, all for a low price. If you buy it you won’t be sorry!

Needs Garageband UI

Sounds really good but I was hoping to use this with Garageband on a mac with a presonus interface and KRK monitors. It doesnt work with GB at all. Very disappointed. Sound quality and tone is great and the effects are very realistic Its just a toy really since there is no application for it other than just playing through it like an amp.

CRASHES ON OSX 10.7.5 LION!!!!!!

I just spent $50.00 and downloaded this app last week…It worked great! Then today I updated what looked to be a routine update ( 2.0.2 ) and now the app wont even open anymore tried uninstallin and re-installing nothing has worked!!!! I want back the version prior to the last update so I can have back what I paid for!!!!

App Crashes if you arn’t running Yosemite:)

I would have given the App a 5out 5 if It worked with anything below Yosemitte. On my Music Computer not running it it crashes. In the description it does not say it won’t work in an older OS. Would be nice of the developer to fix it so it can. Also would be nice if tech support would get back to me, to find a work around.

Horrible latency even with quad core i7

64 is the lowest setting for latency on my Macbook pro 2011 model i7 quad core through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, which runs flawlessly using Reason and Reaper with way more application and no latency issues. Not sure if this is a bug after updating OS X but please fix this in an update, it is useless with so much delay, you play a not and the hear it a second later, not fun at all.

works on my macbook pro

I just tried this again after not using it for a long time. It works pretty well on a fairly recent 2014 Macbook Pro i7, with just a hint of latency and no problems to note. I bought this app when I was using a 2010 Macbook Pro though it wasn’t with this version of the app. I stopped using it then because it just wasn’t working well enough. I’ll use it more now that I know it works on my current machine. I don’t know if it’s because of the faster machine, because they’ve improved the app, or both.

Good guitar amp

Great UI, and very easy to use. It is also reasonably cheap if compared with similar apps. However, the tone and customization options aren’t quite up to par - compared for instance with BIAS or Amplitube, I can see a noticeable difference in tone quality, with Ampkit sounding “smaller” and more artificial. Overall though, bang for the buck it is still an excellent buy.

Best Mac Amp Simulator!

Better than amplitube or anything else out there.

This is the most amazing app on the Mac

You can do everything on this. I’ve always loved this app, and the support (they’ve added so many cabinets, pedals etc)… I just got a pair of Logitech G933 wireless headphones, and this sounds EVEN better. LOVE. IT. LOTS. I use this app with a rocksmith (PC) usb to guitar cable. I’ve never ever had a single problem with this on my imac, or my macbook pro. No latency or anything. Just works amazing… seriously.

Great Software

This is great for a beginner, you dont have to buy the effects you r not familiar. Great Software!

Outstanding variety of Amps, Cabinets and Pedals

I’ve had a chance to try different setups for live guitar input with Garageband, Logic Pro, Amplitube and Ampkit. When comparing the variety of pedals to choose from, Ampkit is by far the most superior. I really liked the fact that Agile Partners provides you with a well versed variety of sounds and effects in the Setups and Presets. I use an iRip HD and Blueboard. Unlike Garageband I found that mapping MIDI controls with the Blueboard was possible and relatively easy to do. Agile Partners also features ‘Artists & Setups’ on their website where you can download presets created by other musicians. The only reason why I’m not giving Ampkit five stars is due to the poor track recording interface and the fact that you can’t use Ampkit with Garageband or Logic Pro via interapp audio bus. The only way that I’ve found to come close is either by investing in 3rd party software or recording a track in Ampkit, exporting the track then importing the track into Garageband or Logic Pro. If you’re looking to save yourself some serious cash and want figure out which types off pedals you’re really interested in before buying hardware, this is definitely a fantastic app and I highly recommend it for this price.
